A friend from Taiwan works as a chef in a posh hotel in Glasgow,but must work 75 hrs a week,is this legal?
I know about the 'working time directive' and 46hrs max etc,but what can he do without jeopardizing his position.I don't believe he is being paid the minimum wage either,however he is allowed two days off per week.

It's not legal... If he'll go to court I'm sure he'll have to leave. sorry

r u seirous , 1 5 - 16 hrs a day. he must be rich. if he is not, then the hotel can be sued for descriminating their workers.

Chef management is usually a salaried position but line cook can also fall into that category depending on the job. It is not unusual to work 65-80 hours a week.
