Hi, the easiest is to go to Hong Kong, you can get a Visa there and you have to fly out from Hong Kong anyway, as there aren't any direct flights from the PR China to Taiwan. In Hong Kong there are thousands of travel agents that can get you a visa quite cheap, or directly go to the embassy: Taiwanese Consulate in Hong Kong, China China Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Center 40th Floor, One Pacific Place 88 Queensway City: Hong Kong Phone: 2523 5555 Fax: 2522 2801 or 2522 2768 Web Site: http://www.taiwaninfo.org Email: service@taiwaninfo.org Office Hours: Mon - Fri : 9:00a.m. - 7:00p.m. Sat : 9:00a.m. - 3:30p.m. Closed on Sunday and public holidays Have fun in Taiwan Andi

Chinese is definitely need for hunting job in Taiwan. If you are not good at speaking in Mandarin, I will suggest you to attend the Chinese lesson in the University at Taipei at least for two years....or perhaps you can find the part-time job in the restaurantss here..The other way is ask the staffs from the university or any international students, they may give you some good direction to look for a job here...Anyway, Good luck!

How much will America tax me for working in Taiwan

How much will America tax me for working in Taiwan?
Let's say I'm making about 60,000 a month in Taiwan. For the first 183 days as a foreigner in Taiwan you are taxed by the ROC government 20%. Obviously, it's hard to withstand much more taxation, but as far as I know, I will also have to go out of my way to file my taxes with the USA and pay them too. What percent can I expect for taxation? And is that before or after Taiwan's taxes? I'm talking about working at a Taiwanese language school.

It depends if your company equalizes its expatriate employees. If they do, then you won't pay more or less taxes than if you were working in the US. I have never had a client in Taiwan, so I cannot make a judgment on their tax structure or the impact on the US taxation. There are many ways for your company to structure your compensation, allowances, and benefits to minimize your tax liability. For your US tax return, you'll receive a foreign tax credit on taxes paid to ROC. Also, you'll file a 2555 as part of your income tax return to exclude some of your foreign income. You should see a tax professional who has experience dealing with expatriate employees.

Canadians working in Taiwan (that would be me) must pay Canadian income tax on foreign income as if it was earned in Canada, minus the Foreign Tax Credit of whatever income tax you paid in Taiwan. The lowest Canadian income tax rate is 22%. That means that you would only be paying 2% extra to Canada for the first six months. After that, your Canadian income tax bill will be 22%-6%, or 16%. I realize that many Canadians simply do not declare the money, and to be honest there is no way for Canada Revenue Agency to catch anyone. After spending a year in Taiwan, I went back to my job as a welfare caseworker. It used to annoy me when ex-teachers, having returned home, would come in and apply for welfare after evading their Canadian income tax. I understand US law to be that the first USD60K of overseas income is exempt, provided you were out of the USA for six months. In other words, Canadians have to pay Her Majesty, but Americans do no have to pay Uncle Sam.

If you are working for a Taiwanese company and paying tax in Taiwan. You have to make over 75.000 US dollars or so a year to have to pay tax in America. I think you need to work outside America for one year. Here's a link to the AIT tax page. http://www.ait.org.tw/en/uscitizens/irs.aspx I don't think you get paid enough in Taiwan to have to pay tax in America. But you will have to file last years return while you were in America. The AIT can give you a real answer. I hope this helps. Regards,

I don't have to pay taxes here, but I do have to send in a form saying how much I make. Not sure of the amount, but the other posters are right that it's a much larger amount than you'll be making for you to have to pay tax. You won't need to pay anything except the tax here in Taiwan then file a form saying what you made overseas.
