Can my Samsung Eternity work in China/Taiwan

Can my Samsung Eternity work in China/Taiwan?
I'm going overseas for a whole month, and need to keep up with someone via text or calls back here at home too. Could I use my eternity for all this and not end up with a heady phone bill (my carrier is at&t)? And what are all the processes involved? If not, could I still use my phone to play games and such, or does turning it on involve roaming charges? Thanks!
Taiwan - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You get roaming charges for all calls and texts however you can probably get a long distance plan for a month so like +$10 or something, then it would be cheaper! Unless your game downloads from the 3G internet(which most games doesn't!) then you are fine. A cheaper way, if your phone is unlocked (you can replace the SIM card inside) then you can get a prepaid SIM card in China/taiwan for like...$10 and then you can make all the local calls without costing a cent with AT&T
2 :
If you make or receive any calls, there will be roaming charges. The standard price is 1.99 per minute, but if you have the international roaming plan, its 1.29 per minute instead. I doubt your eternity is an unlocked phone, so you couldn't use a SIM card from one of Taiwan's cell carriers in your phone. There is no cheap way to call back to the US. I think you still can play games on your phone without charges, but i am not sure. Its probably best if you didn't turn it if you want to avoid any roaming charges for sure. Instead, I think you should use a Taiwan cell phone (they might have those disposable ones or something) and then have that person call you. It is much cheaper for the person in the US call Taiwan than the other way around, especially if they are using a calling card. Email is the best option and its free. I think you can just pay a little to go use the computer at the internet cafe for that.
3 :
Leave your cell phone at home. AT&T will ruin you with outrageous charges. I know someone who was charged $99.00 per minute while overseas. The phone company sued him in court and won, then they took his house as payment. I kid you not, AT&T is ruthless.

Does anyone know of a cell phone company in Canada that works in Taiwan as well?
I am moving to Taiwan for a bit, and would like to just bring my cell phonr over there. I dont have a plan but just a prepaid cell phone. Do you know if any cell phone will work in Taiwan? How expensive would it be? And if I were to go on a plan would it work in Taiwan?

At&t just get a cheap phone, or get some blackberry from verizon that is globally. I strongly suggest some cheap phone from At&t not the best coverage and network. Verizon I would get for a better coverage.

Well... Fido and Rogers work @ taiwan... since they're GSM (phone service that works anywhere in the world) But you will get charged for roaming... Which is REALLY expensive... If its for like a month, it would be very expensive...

What is the salary of a physician in Taiwan

What is the salary of a physician in Taiwan?
My cousin's thinking about going into the medical field after graduating from high school, and she's wondering what the prospects are for Taiwanese doctors in general. She has been completely born and bred and educated in Taiwan, and probably won't do any studying abroad. She'll most likely go to university in Taiwan. What is the average salary for a med student just out of Taiwanese med school who wants to work in Taiwan? Thanks!

Well! I could give it to you. This is the yahoo news from 2005. Due to the universal health plan, many of the doctors cannot survive with current salar :) ‚ Average attending physician is about 300,000 NT annually. (That is about what my clients make per year.)  But for the self-employed doctor, they may not survive. Their netprofit is 80,000 NT.

It will work, yes, but any games you buy in america will not work. they have different file systems (I think taiwan is PAL, while i know that america is NTSB) also, you would have to get an adapter so you could plug it in.

Contact Tzu Chi Buddhist University on their website, and apply for Mandarin Studies there. They also operate a very reputable medical training university and a nursing college. You might acquire a student visa allowing you to stay for one or two years, but you cannot "immigrate" for a longer period unless you find work.

I think as long as u put the memory card from the U.S in that phone. Hope I works good luck.

with most cell phone companies, you have to change your plan when your in another country to use your phone, then you change it back when you get home. The US does sell ericssons, I used to have 1. If your planning to stay in this country just visit your provider and they will help you with this.
4 :
is this phone like bought from a company or a service provider like Vodafone or Cingular then there are less chances that it may work.. BUT if it is bought from a showroom or shop of Sony Ericsson or any mobile selling shop then it 'll definitely work if u just buy a Sim card of U.S there may be chances that the charger may not work due to different volt settings in the countries

You will survive you will be tough for your baby. You will get through it! My babys daddy isnt going to be around at all not because of his job but because he chooses not to be but me and my baby will be fine and so will you! Good luck!

11 :
Go with him. Just go. Pack up everything and be with him.
12 :
holy crap...marry him and move with him 2 years is a really long time!! he will miss everything!!
13 :
Oh how stressful! I can't imagine how distraught you must be over this. I suggest you make a journal while he is gone. Take plenty of pictures and videos and ask him to do the same. Although you won't be together in person the distance won't feel quite as far. As for surviving the pregnancy alone it won't be great but you can do it. I did it with my first. It was the happiest yet saddest time in my life. I look back at that time and pat myself on the back for being so strong and independent though. You will do the same someday. Or you could always just go with him... Good Luck. =)
14 :
If you love him, and pregnancy is something you and him wanted, then you should obviously be looking into getting married. What you should want is to do whatever is going to be best for the baby. If you have to raise the baby on your own you will do a great job you just have to stay strong. Or look into going to Taiwan with him. It will be a great experience for the both of you. Dont feel depressed, just look on the happy side, your about to start a family, and be a new mommy! Dont stress it, stress isnt good for the baby
15 :
You will learn to adjust I promise. My son's father died when I was on 2 months pregnant. You will do what you have to do in order to take care of yourself & your child. Don't be afraid to lean on your friends & family that is what they are there for. Why don't yall just get married? Why can't you go with him?
16 :
I understand where you're coming from. I was faced with being a single mom with my second baby and I was so scared and depressed. You have this feeling of anger because of him not being there as well as fear because you don't know how you're going to do it by yourself. Here is something that got me through it. When I had my first baby, my bf was there and it was a hassle. I had to worry about telling him how he could help me with the baby and things that he wasn't doing and we were always arguing. Not getting the sleep I needed or not feeling like he wasn't doing his part was getting unbearable. With the second one, he wasn't around and I got to do it all myself and it was so much more easier. Yeah, the sleep deprivation was crazy and the running around with another child was insane, but at the end of the day, I knew I did it all by myself and I was happy. I was happy knowing that I didn't need to tell anyone to help me and I wasn't arguing with anyone or getting aggrivating at anyone. I had my own schedule and my own routine on how things needed to get done and it worked. If you make sure your baby is happy, then you're happy and that's what it's all about. Yeah, it's nice to have the help, but believe me, knowing that you can do it yourself makes you a stronger person. In a perfect world, we would all be happily married and everything would go smoothly. I'm sorry to say that not everything works out like that, but you can overcome any obstacle. Especially for your child and your family that is soon to come. It will be okay.... Take care.
17 :
my husband was deployed to Iraq for my entire pregnancy and the first 9 months of our sons life. Doing it alone is tough, but not impossible. hopefully youll have regular contact with your bf so you can confide in him and he can be a part of your pregnacy even though hes on the other side of the world. set up a regular time to email or call him about how youre feeling and i always liked to send my hubby the little updates on that month of pregnacy and the babys development. hopefully you have a strong network of friends and family that will step up and let you rely on them. and if not, find other people going through pregnancy with you. its nice talking to people that are experiencing the same things as you are. Good luck!!! hopefully the next two years fly by for you and your bf, and with any luck you can squeeze in a few visits!
18 :
Was this a planned pregnancy, and why is he going to Taiwan for 2 years when he knows he is having a kid? That's a bit irresponsible. Are you suppose to fend for this baby on your own, after you both laid down and did the do? If his going for work, can't he talk to his company about giving him a position at school? Also if it's to better his education I'm sure he could find a great university where you guys stay! Good luck hun. I myself I'm so lonely and depressed, there's barely anyone that's around me during this pregnancy and it sucks. I swear if you're able to see your family go stay with them or closer to them during this time because it will take a load off your shoulders. After my pregnancy and after college I'm moving back to my country..I'm just too depressed without my family.
19 :
I really feel for you. Is he able to talk to his boss and maybe get another colleague to go instead or to shorten the time there? 2 years is very long and you need to keep the bond. Pregnancy can be done alone but you need the support of family and friends. Try to move in with your parents. Don't be alone...You have to be strong for the baby. Sometimes things happen at the worst times, but you look back at them later and see it was for a reason. All the best sweety and keep strong.
20 :
a baby is more important than a job in a random other country. if thers no way you can move there with him then he can say no to the job and stay here and get another job and look after you and his baby which is what he should be doing! and if he says hes going then he obv cares about a stupid job more than you and you deserve mroe than that so then get rid of him n focus on you and the baby - but im sure you can work summin out-either you can go aswell or he can get a job where you are now instead
21 :
go with!
22 :
well why cant you just go with himm? that shouldnt be hard and if you really have to stay in America theres a thing called Skype would probably help you keeping in touch with him http://www.skype.com/welcomeback/ but think about the time differences...and all that you need to get married asap

depend on what type of work you getting.
2 :
From the little I know, Taiwan is a good place to work but it depends on the type of work you want to do. Since you're Singaporean the differences are not much. Singapore is nice place too. But pray to meet the right people during your first month. Good luck!
3 :
There is a minimum wage which must be paid to foreign workers who are here on a work visa. It's about US$1000 per month. If your skills can earn you the ability to secure a position here, then you will probably like the environment. It mostly depends on what you want to do, how good you are at it, and who your boss is (much like anywhere else in the modernized world).
4 :
Singapore pays better. But if you are bilingual in Chinese (read & write) and English then you can get a proper job at bigger corporates both locally or foreign own which will get you better pay. High paid jobs are normally to do with hi-tech/software industries so you might look into that before you come. Banking/Finance is another option that you can considered as well... Good luck :)
5 :
if ur IT or engineering like a lotta people, u wont get really high pay. wages in taiwan are low compared to korea, japan, n singapore. very low compared to US wages.
6 :
Taiwan paid less than singaporean about half less, so make sure is okay with you, but cost of living in lower, and is pretty heavy japanese influence culture.

Can I get work in Taiwan as a betel nut beauty 檳榔西施 ?
Taiwan is infamous for scantily clad girls selling cigarettes and betel nuts along its roadsides. This looks like a good career for me. Here is what betel nut girls look like: http://fotozon.com/fotoview.cgi?664

Judging from your own personal picture of a large transvestite, it is unlikely you would bring in many extra customers. But nobody here will stop you from trying. Actually, visiting a plus sized betel nut tranny might be a new market for some types of men. Go! Live your dreams! Live your life, for in Taiwan, you are free!
2 :
yes, those girls are way too skinny. they need some plump girls like you.
3 :
Now THAT I'd like to see! Come on over to a free country for a change, and express yourself! You will not only find that very refreshing, you just might come to understand the Taiwanese a little better. Maybe you'll start a fad here by having the truckers pluck the betel nut packs from your ample cleavage, and then you can become internationally famous when you take the practice back to Shanghai. (...If you don't get arrested for trying it out.) LOL Good luck on making your dreams come true, BBBB! (Big-Bosomed Betel Babe)
4 :
Mainland Chinese wanting to work in Taiwan will have to apply for a work visa. They willl require correct qualifications/skills and have confirmations of a job before they are considered for a work visa. This foes to nationals wanting to work in Taiwan. As you have none of these and which to take work were your scantily clad I suggest you try the KTV bars that litter many alleyways in China. The works is ok and you will get to rest your back and wear your pink fluffy earrings to your hearts desire.
5 :
I thought yes
6 :
Actually, few younger generation eat betel nuts nowadays. Betel nuts are for those older people in countryside. I am not sure if it is a good idea to make money. I do see a lot of Chinese who are illegal foreign labors sneak into Taiwan trying to be betel nut beauty though. If you want to sell betel nuts in Taiwan, it is competitive.
7 :
Sure you can. Those girls are very pretty, your qualifications might not fit the standards. You might have difficulties in your career, but I suppose you should start practicing in China, I hear there are many low-level brothels where smelly drunk men will drill anything that resembles a keyhole. Have fun and don't forget to bring Jissbon. It's made in China too, it will resemble plastic zip-lock bags designed to fit any key-sized pecker. http://www.chinahush.com/2011/02/28/jissbon-condoms-sued-for-posing-as-foreign-brand/#more-8051
8 :
Nowadays, only ugly chicks sell betel nuts. Or they just use a crapload of makeup. All the good looking girls go work as part time models or give out sample beauty products or they get a job at the front desk at random companies.
9 :
No, you will scare a lot of customers away.
10 :
There is no regulations. Anyone can do this, You just have to watch out for the pervert "We Never Left".

Work for a Filipina nurse in Taiwan

Work for a Filipina nurse in Taiwan?
I am asking this question on behalf of a friend of mine. She is a graduated nurse from the Philippines, and speaks perfectly English. She doesn't speak any Chinese, but she's willing to learn it. The question(s): * Can she work in Taiwan? (either as a nurse or caretaker - not living in) * What paperwork has to be done? * What wages could she expect? * Can she find a job without passing "brokers"? Thank you so much for helping her. I will pass all answers to her.

Hi, click on the first link below. I got this from the POEA site itself. Currently, there are around 5,000 job vacancies for nurses abroad in the POEA site. Out of these 5,000, only 3 are needed for Taiwan (JEDEGAL INT`L MANPOWER SERVICES INC.) Much of the vacancies are in Saudi Arabia/Middle East. To tell the truth, I've never heard of Pinoy nurses working in hospitals here. Also, while there may be a lot of caregiver services here, yet these are all reserved for the Taiwanese. I seriously doubt if the caregiver agencies would let her work with just a visitor visa and passport to show. They just don't operate that way here (it's illegal.) Well, at least, not anymore. Were these the days of Boomtime twenty to twenty five years ago, then she would have had a good chance of landing a caregiver job here, EVEN WITHOUT THE NECESSARY PAPERS; and in fact, even be able to acquire the Taiwan National ID. Right now, the chances are slim. I wouldn't advise her to take this step. She's better off in Canada, where there's a lot of openings (no offense to Matt of Asia.) Or, she may try her luck in Dubai if she wants. Go into my Profile Page, and under my Contacts window, look for the user Wakaiivp. She may be able to give vital info on how to go about this matter. Write her an email, and tell her I'm behind all this. Please click on the second link. Most of the requirements your friend needs to show to the POEA are there. -------------------------------------- Addendum: sorry, but the first link doesn't work, so I changed it anew. When you get to the page, click on "Search Overseas Job Vacancies by Position," it will take a while to download. In the next page, type "Nurse" in the blank field, and click "Sort by Country."
2 :
Go to Canada or Europe! As a Filipino why work here? Both those countries NEED nurses. Taiwan actually has a surplus already, their main problem is lack of english ability so THEY can take advantage of the easily available/ higher paying nursing jobs overseas. All Philipino 'caretakers' here are essentially (overqualified and educated) house slaves from all I have heard. I wouldn't advise my worst enemy to sign up for that gig. Some qualified nurses I have heard about getting raped, beaten ect by their 'masters' and many are on 24 hour video surveillence and are forbidden to read books in Tagalog and are called if they take a bathroom break longer than 5 minutes off the video cameras... you dont want to get involved with that. There are agencies that workers with problems can call here in theory, but I highly doubt that is anything but a face saving gimmick the government put up, the rights agencies here are toothless in reality to force people to do anything or cause them to be blacklisted or anything. Maybe some Philipinos who work here already can offer a different view, but I would highly recommend passing on wasting your hard earned education on nursing in Taiwan. People who hire servants here are sick, sick sick regarding the treatment of people from countries they feel make a lower GNP than themselves. A larger percentage than normal of rich people here are BAD news. Rob, no offense taken. I am not a nurse and have little interest in it anyways. When did I ever say there was no opportunity in Canada? -The VAST majority of normal people here are wonderful human beings (at least to my face), I am just getting ranty. The climate is nice and its a great place to VISIT. But I would not want to be a nurse here or a philipino/ malaysian/ thai/ viet/ caretaker or construction worker here by any means.

I want to know : If I buy a DVD in Taiwan, will it work on my DVD player in South Africa?
The DVD player that I have in South Africa is a LG8621P(I think that's the model no.) or it could be LG DV-8621P Anyways, will my Taiwan DVDs work on that when I get home?

No, regions are different. If it's a special dvd that you can't get in SA, and you have a PC, you could install AnyDVD and use it to strip the region code off the disk. Then you would have to burn the data onto a new DVD and you could watch that one.
2 :
Is your DVD player multizone capable? Even if it is not most DVD players can be enabled to multizone by entering a combination of keys on the remote. DO an internet search with your model name and something along the lines of enable multizon.

-Mandarin classes should be no problem to find, as long as you're in a major city. If not, you could probably hire a private teacher. Contact the nearest University, and they might have classes or teachers willing to take you on. -Finding work for a law firm would be incredibly difficult, unless you already speak and read mandarin. Honestly, I've been here for three years, and have never met a lawyer from a western country. You will have a much better chance of finding work as a teacher; whether or not you find this appealing, it is the profession of the vast majority of foreigners working in Taiwan. -Again, your best chance at obtaining a work visa is through a teaching job, probably a buxiban (cram school). If you are serious about studying Mandarin, though, you also may want to consider getting a student visa instead. Less paper work and you can still work (off the books, of course) -Check out www.tealit.com for good info about expat living in Taiwan. -Good Luck!!!

How to land for a decent job and work permit in Taiwan

How to land for a decent job and work permit in Taiwan?
Hi there? I am a Malaysian with US Business Degree, good academic background, experienced in Sales, Marketing and Research. Is it possible to fly to Taiwan straight away, then start look for a job and get work permit? Thanks a lot!

only if you are looking for a job as an english teacher for a nightmarish bushiban, then I suspect is it possible. Otherwise I would make contacts online and see if people have jobs open. You need to be more specific about what you are looking for. A lot of Malaysians are not treated well in Taiwan. Most Malays I have met are maids, many of whom have Business Degrees. Most of the other Malaysians here are in construction. If you have a US business degree, you should try to see if much is available there or in Canada or in other parts of the western world for you. If you want a good paying job in Taiwan (or anywhere in the world) probably you should go for an Engineering degree of one type or another. The universe already has too many business degree people floating around from what I can see, too many of which dont seem to have a clue of how to actually run their business effectively. Sorry, not you I am referring to. However, dont let my words get you down, if you are hard working, lucky and adaptable you can work where ever you want.
2 :
HI, You can start by putting up your resume at: http://www.104.com.tw/service_eng_more.htm You can come here for a while and look around. There are many new Hotels and Large Organisations that could use your services. Coming over here via Singapore is inexpensive on Jetstar . If you get a job and the application is put in for your permit, then you can get extentions here without having to leave the country. Once you have gotten your pass, you mighthave to take a visa run to HK and then return to Taipei.
3 :
I think those guys pretty much covered everything. Another thing is that it's not always 'what you know' but rather 'who you know'. When I first came here I got tough job in a Buxiban that wouldn't let me have the time to study Chinese and only gave me 1 day a week off work. I got married (to a Taiwanese girl I met before coming to Taiwan) and because of her I didn't even need a work permit. I even managed to get a job in a University - not on my qualifications (and I am qualified) but because my wife knew someone working there. This seems to happen a lot in Taiwan, people get jobs because of their relationships.

Look up the Taiwanese Embassy and call them with regard to this query. Or go to the Republic of China (Taiwan) official website: http://www.gio.gov.tw/taiwan-website/2-visitor/index.htm
2 :
Due to political pressure from the People's Republic of China, most countries (including the United States and Canada) do not have embassy-level relations with Taiwan, so visa applications are made through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. Minute particulars of the visa application process change frequently, but the basic procedures for the following two options are fairly standard. To travel to Taiwan you will need a visitor visa. Two different types of visas are issued: two-week (nonextendable), and sixty-day (extendable or nonextendable). North Americans can obtain the two-week, nonextendable visa upon arrival in Taipei. All that's necessary is a passport good for at least six months beyond the length of your stay and a ticket that shows that you are planning to leave Taiwan within the two-week period. The sixty-day visas can be further categorized by whether they are "multiple entry" and by how long they are valid (from one to five years). You're not supposed to comprehend this—no one does. Your mission, however, is to get a sixty-day, extendable, five-year, multiple-entry visa. When applying for a visa at one of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices in the Unites States or Canada we suggest saying that you are going to Taiwan to either visit or study. It is illegal to work without a permit, which you won't have yet, so if you say you are going to work, it gives the officer a chance to delay the visa. You might say you plan to stay with a friend (give a name and address) who is studying Chinese. You need to convince the officer that you have a legitimate reason for staying in Taiwan for at least two months. Even with a sixty-day visa, sometimes the officer will put a stamp in your passport saying "non-extendable" in Chinese. Be on the lookout for those. Extendable visas can be extended twice for a total of 180 days, given that you provide the authorities with a convincing story about why you want to stay in Taiwan. After two extentions, you will have to exit the country before the visa expires and then re-enter. Visas & Passports: Consular Services, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York 1 East 42nd Street, 4th Floor, NY, NY 10017 Tel: 212-486-0088 Fax: 212-421-7866
3 :
Without a visa, you can stay in Taiwan for one month. With a tourist visa you get 3 months. This can be extended (with a good reason) to 6 months. For more information contact any of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices in the USA.

How can a US permanent resident get a work permit in Taiwan

How can a US permanent resident get a work permit in Taiwan?
I am looking to be an English teacher in Taiwan but hold a Malaysian passport. I understand that the Taiwanese government issues work permits primarily to people from Native English speaking countries. I have been a permanent resident of the USA for 19 years and obtained all my education here. Additionally, I have a Bachelors degree from UCSB with a minor in English. How would someone like me obtain a work permit to teach in Taiwan?
Immigration - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The Taiwanese government will process your work permit application based on your Malaysian citizenship. Your ability to get a Taiwanese work permit depends on finding an employer who wants to hire you. A prospective employer is probably more interested in seeing your college diploma and any TESOL or TEFL certificate you might have, as well as your resume, rather than nationality. So the short is that it won't matter that you're a Malaysian citizen to get a work permit. However, this means you'll be living outside the US for an extended time. You may lose your US permanent residency (green card), and even if you don't, your 19 years will be discarded from the 5 years of US residency required to apply for US citizenship. It's not a problem if you don't care to live in the US again. Otherwise, you may want to get your US citizenship before going to work in Taiwan.

How many foreign hostess girls work in Taiwan? What nationalities are the most popular

How many foreign hostess girls work in Taiwan? What nationalities are the most popular?

Nearly all fine restaurants in Taiwan employ hostesses to greet the customers. Although nearly all are Taiwanese, on occasion one might find a foreigner, particulary if the establishment caters to foreign customers. I wouldn't say there is a specific foreign nationality that is favored, unless you want to count the Mainlander Chinese who have fled China to work over here in this country. If you are referring to the "other type" of hostess girl, you are not likely to find any who would be interested in providing services to you, regardless of their nationality, unless you already have connections with the HeiDao here. Perhaps you are a criminal, or someone who engages in criminal activities. Yes? Maybe you should think about finding a wife someday, instead of wasting your time spreading unbelievable CCP propaganda. What d'ya say?
2 :
The number is most likely to be unknown. Foreign hostess girls working in Taiwan are likely to be mainland Chinese, where they skills in working in KTV and massage services have given them a lifelong taste for this kind of job. These places cater to hundreds of mainland Chinese business flock to these bars to escape from their ugly fat wife and/or kids enables them to earn more than on the mainland.
3 :
Little One. She was a Mainlander and really stinky.
4 :
When Taiwanese wives neglect their husbands, then its time to visit a KTV or massage parlor. Foreign hostess girls are very popular with bored Taiwanese men. Girls from Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines serve drinks and happy endings in Taiwan. Girls from South America and Europe round out the multicultural festivities. Not surprisingly, overweight women from America cannot find employment as hostesses. Hostess Twinkies taste great (see weblink). http://www.hostesscakes.com/twinkies.asp

Which business visa are you talking about? I can think of at least two that are "business" visas. One is like a one-year tourist visa. You can go to Korea to "conduct business" (like negotiations, or work paid outside Korea) but not be paid within Korea. You can get one of these if you have a sponsoring organization, like a major company, that is outside of Korea. You would not be allowed to be a caretaker in Korea. You're not allowed to work on the local economy on this type of business visa. Many people break the law and do it anyway, but it's technically illegal and you could be fined and deported. Another "business" visa is the Treaty Investor D-8 visa. If you want to set up a full-scale caretaking business in Korea, you can do it with a D-8. The requirements for the D-8 (minimum): - 50,000,000 won invested in Korea - Proof that you can hire at least two regular employees who are Korean, full-time Neither visa will allow you to go to Korea and be self-employed as a caretaker on your own, at least not legally.

Might, but you would be using international data roaming, I.E. very expensive.
2 :
You can use your Wi-Fi on your cell phone. Wi-Fi is universal and works in all international countries. If your smartphone has Wi-Fi then you can that to access the internet or use any of your apps. However you won't be able to use your cell phone to make calls since Verizon uses CDMA network and not GSM network. .

goto the Taiwanese Consulate website. Type "taiwanese consulate" into the search field.
2 :
you find work first, and then your employer sponsors your visa. I live in Taiwan, and this is the way it has to be done. Your employer has to file for "permission" from the government to hire a foreign national. Then, they have to file a lot of paperwork, then, you have to file a lot of paperwork and get a medical exam before you can get an ARC (alien resident card, ie work visa.) You can come to Taiwan on a two, or sometimes three month visa, and work, but you will have to leave the country after three months, but you can return again, after applying for another three month visa. Your job, or one of your jobs, should be able to sponser you for a visa. So, first, before you leave your home country, apply for a "two month visitors visa" for Taiwan. That way, you will have up to two months in Taiwan before securing work that can sponsor your visa.

I want to know if it is possible to enter the country and then to apply for a work visa. I lived there before for 4 years and never had any trouble with the police or anything. I want to work as an English teacher or in a company. On the ROC visa application website it asks if you have or have or have every had a criminal record. Is there any way to get around this?

You could lie about it but of course that would only get you denied for sure. You could hope they don't catch on but if you do get the visa and then they catch on once you are over there I'm sure you won't like the inside of a Thai jail. You could apply for a pardon in Canada, get it and THEN apply for a visa so that you wouldn't have to lie on the document. Your call.
2 :
Tough call buddy...really tough. If I were you, I'd try to pretend you never had that conviction and fill out the Visa straight up and hope it clears their check. I mean, if you disclose it, you are guaranteed a deny. It's stricly a probability answer.

If there is an outlet and some source of water like pipes or a sink, then yes it should work. If your moving back to Taiwan, you should buy some stuff that is only in America to remember it by. You know, something you won't usually see and Taiwan. Good luck!
3 :
You may need to buy an adapter if the outlets don't match the plugs. It seems like it would be easier to purchase what you need there, especially with the cost of shipping. Also, it's difficult to know what you will need in Taiwan, unless a person has lived there.

You need a four year degree and a job offer before you get there. And a work visa. EDIT:I'm not 100% sure, but in most countries, you need to apply for the work visa before you enter the country. If you happened to find work after you were there, you would have to leave the country, apply, and then re-enter.This is how it is for Japan. You can probably find work there on your own,but you could be deported if someone turned you in.You might want to google "working in Taiwan" and see what comes up.I wouldn't want you to take any chances while you're there.
2 :
You can get a work permit upon arrival but you might need to make a visa getaway for a day or two. NOT a problem as many people make visa runs to HK. Now I read in the papers that a return flight to Macau is only NTD2500/- So you can go away for a weekend. Remember as far as Immigration is concerned-You are coming here on a holiday only.
3 :
If you are going to work in Taiwan and want a work permit, you will need a company to sponsor you so you can have your work permit. This is because they will need to file tax information for you and to tell the government when your employment is over. To teach English you need at a bare minimal a 2 yr degree and a TESOL/TEFL certificate that is recognized by Taiwan, but most companies will require a 4 year degree in anything. If you apply for a job once you get to Taiwan and are accepted you will need to leave because you can only have one visa at a time, so in order to get your work visa you must exit the country. Going to HK is an easy thing to do, just about an 1hr flight from Taipei no visa required for Americans. The only thing with this is that Taiwan only issues 1 year work visas and all companies are by law required to issue a minimal 1 year contract. It helps to keep the backpacker teachers who use to come to Taiwan work for a few weeks or months and then leave and not put in any real effort from messing up the education system. Now you didn't hear this from me, but it is possible to work under the table. However you really need to be careful about doing this, because if the Taiwan government finds you odds are you will be deported put on a black list and not allowed back for at least a year. I have heard from some other teachers that you can do private tutoring without claiming it to be a job as long as you don't advertise and you tutor more than one person at a time. Mind you I have never tried this and have no idea if this is works or not, but tutoring or working for a friend might be your best bet. Just know that if you post a question about working short term, or illegally in Taiwan as a English teacher on any ESL page, serious teachers will flame you and tell you not to do it because as it is things are good for us here, and every time someone causes trouble everybody else feels it after you are gone.

Do people in Hong Kong, China & Taiwan work on Saturdays

Do people in Hong Kong, China & Taiwan work on Saturdays?
I am calling companies in China, Hong kong & Taiwan to find a right manufacturer for a certain product we need. Just trying to get an idea if it is worth my time to call these factories on saturday?
China - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

yes even sundays
2 :
There is no definite answer to your question. Just like what the first answerer posted, some companies might work on Sundays but that is not very common. Some companies open on Saturday either half or full day, but some choose to have alternate or every Saturday off. Why don't you call Mon-Fri or contact them by email first.
3 :
In Mainland China the workers that work for Chinese companies work 7 days a week or at least 6 that being Sat. In Taiwan and Hong Kong they have Sat off unless it is a service job that is open 7 days a week like Mc Donald's. I lived in Mainland China and watched so many people work 7 days a week from day break to dark.
4 :
In China, many factories and manufacturers work six or seven days a week. If you are trying to call the mainland this week (May 1), then you should know that it's a holiday time period. Many places will be closed, at minimum, May 1, 2 and 3. Some a bit longer. Some places may close all week long, depending upon the owner, etc. Hard to say as this year, the May 1 holiday is not a "golden week" in my part of the country. In spite of that, many professors cancelled classes, etc., and many shops are closed so that people could travel. Regardless of location, everyone should be back working full strength by May 10.
5 :
No, Saturdays and Sundays are off days. But if the manufacture has good business,or emergency orders, they will work 7 days a week, 24 hours, shift around.
6 :
Most Chinese manufacturing companies have marketing staff available 7 days per week. Call between 0900 and 1800 China Standard Time (CST).
7 :
In China and Hong Kong it varies between companies. Many of the big cities in China require that staff work on saturday for half a day (which means they do nothing on that day). Hong Kong is similar. Sales people are working long hours and often communicate with email and mobile phones, which means they are effectively on call 24 hours a day. I would say wait until monday, because a saturday call might get a quick response, while on monday they will take the time and effort to do this work properly (just like I avoiding calling companies with complex enquiries on a Friday, because they often have forgetten in by monday)
8 :
In Hong Kong, usually Saturdays are off. Some will have half-day or alternative Saturdays e.g. this Saturday could be a working day, and next weeks' Saturday is off-day, followed by another week with work again etc. Usually sales / marketing offices are up to Saturdays, for production or manufacturing office, the work could go 7days/week and depending on the load of orders. As for Taiwan, I'm not sure, you better ask it on Taiwan section.
9 :
in HK, we 5 & a half day. means work half day til 1pm on Sat. n off at pm + SUN whole day. but some USA, Europe co. in HK just work 5 days. depends...... n in china, most of the ofc work 6 full days. just off SUN. taiwan abt the same as HK.

There are tons of people in Taiwan with tattoos. If you want a teaching job, so long as a shirt covers it, and you have the qualifications, it is possible.
3 :
As a foreigner, you cannot get an employment visa for a non-professional job. Factory, farm, and manual labor jobs are reserved for local Taiwanese people. Only qualified foreign doctors, lawyers, engineers, software programmers, etc are eligible for a Taiwan employment visa.
4 :
You should be able to find a factory job, but it will be a little difficult than the one who does not have tattoo with equal experience/education as you.

So long as its unlocked, it will work. BB's typically are world phones and can be used most anywhere in the world. Most likely your BB is already unlocked if you purchased in Taiwan.
2 :
yes it will - all u gotta do is jailbreak it - this is a program you download onto your iphone - it messes around with ya settings and eventually lets you use the phone anywhere regardless of wheres its purchased. it isnt very risky, but be warned, there is always risks when u do stuff like that - ive got one from canada and jail broken it. :) hope ive helped.

How can I find work in Taiwan

How can I find work in Taiwan?
I am looking for work in Taiwan. I am possibly moving with my wife to Taiwan (near Hsinchu city) and I am looking for employment. She will be teaching English. I have not finished my degree so I can not legally teach english while over there. Since I am in the states it is kinda hard to find a job in Taiwan for someone with no degree. My experience is managing restaurants, and working with people (I currently work with youth in a church). The thing is I need to know ASAP as we need to make our decision in the next few days. She will only be making 600 ntd an hour and working 21 hrs a week. Plus substitute teaching on the side.... I dont think that will be enough.

I don't know much about your legal status to work since you're married to someone who works here. I don't know what kind of job you can find. If you don't get any answers here, you may also want to try www.forumosa.com They have a Work questions page that always brings good answers for me. Matt

Don't know what kind of job you want to do. Post your resume and try to find an employer can offer documents that you can apply work permit and work legal: http://www.104.com.tw/service_eng.htm good luck.
3 :
Not sure but you might be able to work on a spousal visa
4 :
Ok, you may still have the option of taking chinese classes to get your visa. You can also try and get your visa by working at a bushiban that will take you. Check out http://www.tealit.com <wow -I have an imitator! LOL! Hey mattfromasia nice name!>

You cannot work at all on a spousal visa. You cannot get a work visa unless you already have a job, and there are very few jobs that foreigners are allowed to do. Some people work for western companies, but they were already employed in the USA or wherever. You already know that you cannot teach English unless you have a degree or a diploma. Some people work illegally.

Do you need a university degree to work in Taiwan

Do you need a university degree to work in Taiwan?
I plan on moving to Taiwan for a year. Accurate information concerning work is hard to come by and often conflicting. I have a couple years of university complete, but haven't yet finished my degree. Is it possible to get a work permit without a diploma?

No you do not need a degree to work here, we have 95 percent of our work force who have degrees. You can find many jobs anywhere with out a degree, jobs such as a jousekeeper, maid, yardman. trash hauler,Bathroom clealner in airport, Beggar on street corner, I could go on and on but you get the drife. GET AN EDUCATION
2 :
I think it is possible, but those are your labor jobs (like janitor etc..) The better jobs would probably require a university degree.
3 :
there are a lot of work in taiwan that doesn't need a degree, but you will be in rank and file position, but that is just a stepping stone when you are new in a country, you can apply for another position when you are there and be properly documented when you want to go to another country..
4 :
That depends on many factors. Where are you from? English teaching is a common job, but you need at least an associates degree and a teaching certificate to do that. Also many jobs with Taiwanese companies will require you to speak Chinese. I see you speak English? Can you speak any other languages? You cannot expect to work even in labor aeas if you cannot speak the language. You can however finish your degree here cheap. Try National Sun Yat-Sen University in Kaohsiung for engineering, business or Chinese. You can also try National Taiwan University in Taipei and many others across the country.
5 :
You need a degree to be a legal english teacher. if you are taking courses in Chinese or something else at the universities here, you can get in as a student, but you need to attend your classes or get kicked out of the country.

In order to qualify for a Taiwanese employment visa you must have a job offer from a Taiwanese company. In order to get a job offer, you must have education, skills, and/or work experience that makes you more qualified than any available Taiwan citizen for the job. This is the standard for hiring foreign employees in most countries. Generally speaking, individuals must be well qualified to get a job offer and employment visa. Taiwan recruits ultra-low-wage contract workers from foreign countries to fill unskilled construction and housekeeping positions. These employees are hired en mass through foreign recruitment agencies in places such as the Philippines. This would not be an appropriate choice for a person who is two years through their university degree.

Yes. In China however, you can get a job from our government without any education at all. China recruits ultra-low-wage comical writers from foreign countries to fill unskilled comic and entertainment writing positions. These employees are hired to write imaginative stories to promote a god-like China who is perfect and never makes mistakes. They are also called upon to write cover-up lies when something evil that is happening in China. They will deny that Mao Ze Dong is a eunuch and gay, but that is the truth. They are not the most lovable creatures but they sure spin the stories about China really fast. They are also brainwashed to hate on America and any anti-China posters. Initially, when someone posts negative comment in China section, they will bring their hordes of trolls created by a single user with multiple accounts, they will bash on that person and manipulate the whole story. They also like to play a game called "pick me", it's where one of his trolling accounts asks a question with an added insult to Americans, then use another trolling account to answer the same question, and then he makes sure to pick it's own trolling answer as the best one in hopes of earning an orange badge and get on the top answerer board. As you can see, this is the appropriate choice for some, very low Cultural IQ but full of BS fun! lol

A friend from Taiwan works as a chef in a posh hotel in Glasgow, but must work 75 hrs a week,is this legal?
I know about the 'working time directive' and 46hrs max etc,but what can he do without jeopardizing his position.I don't believe he is being paid the minimum wage either, however he is allowed two days off per week.

It's not legal... If he'll go to court I'm sure he'll have to leave. sorry
2 :
r u seirous , 1 5 - 16 hrs a day. he must be rich. if he is not, then the hotel can be sued for descriminating their workers.

Chef management is usually a salaried position but line cook can also fall into that category depending on the job. It is not unusual to work 65-80 hours a week.
