Can a phone from the Chinese mainland work in Taiwan

Can a phone from the Chinese mainland work in Taiwan?
Just wondering if you have a Chinese phone with service from China Mobile, can you use it international (outside the mainland), specifically Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines?

Probably as long as there's a cell tower

No. I believe you'd have to change the SIM card to operate in Taiwan. Per China Mobile: "RE: Roaming Calls (calls placed when traveling outside of the country); Roaming is currently not available with your China service." http://www.aerobile.com/china_sim/

Might, but you would be using international data roaming, I.E. very expensive.
2 :
You can use your Wi-Fi on your cell phone. Wi-Fi is universal and works in all international countries. If your smartphone has Wi-Fi then you can that to access the internet or use any of your apps. However you won't be able to use your cell phone to make calls since Verizon uses CDMA network and not GSM network. .

How do I get a work visa to work in Taiwan

How do I get a work visa to work in Taiwan?
I've been trying to navigate the website www.gio.gov.tw but it's been really hard to find what I need to know. I am going there to teach at my friend's tutoring school (and other random English-teaching jobs) but the school is really small.

goto the Taiwanese Consulate website. Type "taiwanese consulate" into the search field.

you find work first, and then your employer sponsors your visa. I live in Taiwan, and this is the way it has to be done. Your employer has to file for "permission" from the government to hire a foreign national. Then, they have to file a lot of paperwork, then, you have to file a lot of paperwork and get a medical exam before you can get an ARC (alien resident card, ie work visa.) You can come to Taiwan on a two, or sometimes three month visa, and work, but you will have to leave the country after three months, but you can return again, after applying for another three month visa. Your job, or one of your jobs, should be able to sponser you for a visa. So, first, before you leave your home country, apply for a "two month visitors visa" for Taiwan. That way, you will have up to two months in Taiwan before securing work that can sponsor your visa.
